We made it!

Well, we finally made it. We opened today and it was great to meet so many lovely people who dropped into the shop. We still have a few little opening niggles – this is a ‘soft-opening’ – bear with us while we struggle with our high-tech till system, and because of a snafu at the bank we won’t be able to take debit and credit card payments until Wednesday. However, apart from that, we’re all stocked up and ready to sell. It’s been interesting to see what’s been flying off the shelves today, and it’s clear that the people of Barnes love our Sally Clarke bread and pastries, are interested in our micro-brewery beer and have a penchant for air dried ham and charcuterie in general!

Approaching the finishing post…or is that the starting line?

We’re nearly there, shelves are being stacked, fresh produce being artfully arranged in our chilled counters, coffee machines tested, and we’re practising with our till and scanning system. We’re opening on Monday to give us a gentle chance to bed ourselves in for a week before our first busy (we hope) day of Saturday trade.
We’re new to this all, so we’ll still be learning in our first few weeks, but do please come along and tell us what you like and don’t like about our new shop, we’ll take all feedback on board.

Things are moving so fast now, it’s hard for us to find time to update the website so we’ve taken to Twitter to give you updates. The shop fit is nearly there, but with the usual, snagging, grumbles and niggles that any building job involves, our storage facility is full of products ready to hit the shelves and we’re planning our stand at The Barnes Food Fair too. We’re really looking forward to opening sometime in the week commencing September 24, we’ll let you know the date as soon as we know it ourselves!

We’ve just sourced some amazing fresh pasta from Italy – you really must taste it!
